Sealants

Sealants are thin, protective coatings painted on the chewing surface of your back teeth. They act as a barrier, protecting the enamel from plaque and acids. Sealants prevent 80% of cavities over 2 years in the back teeth, where 9 in 10 cavities occur. School-age children with sealants have almost 3 times less cavities than school-age children without sealants.

It's best to get sealants as soon as molars appear. The 1st molars appear around age 6. 2nd molars appear around age 12. Adults also benefit from dental sealants. However, many insurances don't cover adult sealants. Check with the front desk about coverage.

Remember: sealants are NOT a replacement for proper dental hygiene
